  @ivan_gymnast and his brother with a very short Instagram video that includes a belt aimed at one of their behinds. Belting as a game is an Instagram video by  @lexy.thomas9 - the boys are  Elijah 18, Isaiah 17, Ethan 16, Sheldon 14, Simeon 12, Iridius 9, Lexton 2 although presumably only the older ones are in this video. Mom seems to be filming. This drawing by Norman Rockwell  entitled "Before the Shot" (1958) gives helpful clues as to  how much of a boy's butt it's appropriate to show in a pic. T he original artist said something like, "well, the pants had to be pulled down far enough to make it funny. But, the pants had to be kept up enough, to make it respectable".  AND he had an argument with his editor about it; which he won. T he pic appeared on millions of front pages across the USA.

Those spanking paddles (leather, not wooden) were manufactured on a cottage industry scale by George Huntingdon, who actually ran a newsagents shop in Felpham, on the English South Coast. Thoroughly nice man, a bit eccentric but aren't we all, here in England... This was in the mid 1970s to late 80s. George was a traditionalist in terms of punishment - not, I should stress, a nasty man, nor a fetishist. Anyway he believed in spanking at home and caning in school (still fully legal in those days and extremely widespread). British parents' implement of choice was nearly always the slipper - but George decided that some were more suitable than others, and that there would be a market for a simple flat leather paddle to sell to parents. It's definitely possible to use a paddle that long over the lap. And instead of swatting the bottom with the part of the paddle close to the handle, grandpa could instead have his elbow further back so that the end part of the paddle can still connect. But, either way of doing it, ends up giving less hard of a swat than that size of paddle is capable of.
