Forum pics and forum pic notes, April to September 2021 - Perspectives on Boys' Spankings voy forum

Thank you to everyone who said nice things about the research I did into topics about the forum pics that we used on the forum during 2021. We were keeping a record of these on the forum itself, which was a mistake cos Voy then deleted the entire forum and never told us why even tho Alf asked them.

The good news is that we kept some of the info. So this post is gonna contain as much info as I can find, for anyone interested in looking thru the old forum pics and the info I posted about each one. And later I might re-write some of the ones that were lost completely (cos I know which pics were used for each one.) And then soon I might put up new forum pics with new notes on this blog too.

Current forum status: Up and running at https://www.voy.com/249907/

These were the titles and approximate dates of each new forum pic from late April to early July (more details and pics will be added to this post later) .... note, don't bother with the links cos they won't work .... keep scrolling down for more pics:

Re: Old forum pic - grinning kid paddled over desk. New forum pic - Dragon lady -- Adam, Fri 2021-Apr-23 8:09pm

This pic, drawn by Arkham-Insanity on deviantart.com, shows a personification of Great Britain threatening to punish a personification of the American Colonies. The tea reference is about the Boston Tea Party of 1773, where people objecting to "taxation without representation" destroyed products shipped in by merchants. By the 4th of July, 1776, thirteen colonies that had rebelled against British authority, declared themselves independent states and vowed to fight against British control. French and Spanish powers saw this as an opportunity, and French and American forces fighting together defeated the British in the Siege of Yorktown in 1781.

In the USA, 4th July is still celebrated, even though the biggest expansion of USA territory came in subsequent years by buying land from the French, the Spanish, and the Russians, and taking land from the Mexicans. Both sides used Native American tribes during the war, and the largest part of the land claimed by the USA was stolen from Native American tribes that had lived on the land for centuries.
The implement used seems to be a cane; these were supposedly deliberately designed by the British to inflict pain even through pants and underwear, although it's uncertain whether they used in the late 1700's or whether this depiction is just fanciful.

It is spelled rebellion of course.

This pic is where the tables get turned, but we don't seem to have the original forum pic notes for it at the moment:

Grandpa Joe said that the look on the USA-character's face, made him think of the look my stepbro must have on his face when he gives me a paddling!
Sonic the Hedgehog is a video game character originally designed by Naoto Ohshima as part of attempts by Sega to find a mascot to compete with Nintendo's hugely successful Super Mario Brothers 3. Sonic's shoes were inspired by the cover of Michael Jackson's 1987 album Bad, and his personality was based on U.S. President Bill Clinton. The gameplay of the first Sonic game came from a tech demo by Yuji Naka using "an algorithm that allowed a sprite to move smoothly along a curve by determining its position with a dot matrix." The speed and smoothness of the gameplay were revolutionary, using the 16-bit hardware of Sega's Mega Drive games console (known as the Sega Genesis in North America.)

Sega's board of directors and the CEO of their USA division were opposed to plans for aggressively marketing the game, and thought kids in the USA wouldn't like the character. But the company president  Hayao Nakayama told new USA division CEO Tom Kalinske, "I hired you to make the decisions for Europe and the Americas, so go ahead and do it." Kalinske had previously worked on Barbie, Hot Wheels, and Masters of the Universe at the Mattel toy company. He bundled Sonic the Hedgehog with every Genesis console. This was a huge success and broke Nintendo's dominance of the video games market, with the Genesis outselling the Super Nintendo Entertainment System every year from 1991 to 1994.

In this pic by SDCharm on pixiv.net, Sonic is spanking Tails, his sidekick designed by Yasushi Yamaguchi and introduced in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Tails is based on the Kitsune, intelligent foxes with paranormal abilities from Japanese folklore.

June 23rd, 2021 was the 30th anniversary of the release of the original Sonic game. Sonic is the fourteenth best selling video game franchise of all time, and also has spin-off comics, animated series, and feature films. Sonic Colours: Ultimate is due for release in September 2021, and 2022 releases will include another game, a movie sequel featuring Tails, and an animated series on Netflix.
That's another pic of Tails getting his tail warmed.... there are actually quite a few out there :)
The Legend of Zelda is a video game first released in Japan in February 1986. This pic shows Link, the main protagonist in the game, getting a spanking. The game was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in Europe and North America in late 1988, and one of many sequels was released for the Super NES in 1991. An original game cartridge of the NES version sold on 9th July 2021 for US$870,000. In 1993 Link's Awakening was released for the Nintendo Game Boy, and a new version released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64 was widely considered "the best video game of all time". Subsequent games in the series were released for the Nintendo GameCube,  Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, DS, 3DS, Wii U, and Switch.

Today, 16 July 2021, a High Definition remake of Legends of Zelda: Skyward Sword is scheduled to be released for the Nintendo Switch. Another sequel game has been scheduled for 2022.

Link, created by Shigeru Miyamoto, was shown as a young boy, a male teenager, and young male adult, but the huge number of games released in the Zelda series included timelines that involved "child Link", "adult Link" "toon Link", "fallen hero" and others. Inspirations for the character and the game included J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. "Although at the end of some games, Link becomes vastly talented in physical skill and magical prowess, he usually starts off the game as a regular boy." The Zelda mentioned in the title was sometimes a princess, and sometimes just a girl from Link's school.

Allegedly the 1998 design of Link "was based on a well known American actor" to make the character seem an older "cool" teenager. Four years later, "Link was a young boy....a very active and very energetic young boy." The plots and sub-plots and options in all the games are very complicated and Link moves back and forward in time and also splits into different characters and is pursued by Dark versions of himself, and many other adventures.

For this forum post we were originally going to use this pic of Link in a very very short tunic using a switch on Dark Link; pic by Passionateshadow on deviantart.com -

We also featured some other Link spankings, we can't find the text about them right now:

Including the aftermath of the spanking shown above:
Always make sure people get hugs after their spanking. Especially when their bottom is that red!

From the 1938 movie The Housemaster, based on a 1936 play. The kid is being caned by his housemaster for being caught somewhere that the headmaster decided should be "out of bounds". He's kneeling on a large reference book which is on the seat of a high-backed chair, with his hands on the seat of another chair placed back-to-back against the first one. His school jacket or blazer is folded up slightly so that it doesn't cover the target area. After 6 whacks of the cane, the kid has to put the reference book back in the housemaster's bookshelf and put the chairs back in their original positions. A housemaster is a teacher in charge of a boarding house in a private school; the headmaster is in charge of the whole school.

The movie is described as a comedy and has a partly ridiculous plot but there are also very realistic parts - the kid talks like Ronnie Winslow, not like Mickey Rooney or Billy Bunter. He doesn't cry or yelp, but he does gasp and flinch at each whack and rubs his behind afterward.

He answers "yes sir!" when the teacher asks if it hurt, and the teacher tells him "it was meant to, otherwise we'd both be wasting our time." He also tells him to use more sense next time and not disobey rules, or at least, not get caught!

The kid then mentions that the headmaster is introducing a lot of unreasonable rules, but the housemaster doesn't want to discuss that. He tells the kid to "go and examine your disgusting stripes in the mirror"; when he asks "do you ever do that?" the kid answers "ehh usually sir". The housemaster smiles and says "so did I".

The kid looks and sounds about 14 but the actor was actually slightly older than that at the time. His reaction to the caning is slightly under-exaggerated - "six of the best" with the cane was supposed to be a very serious punishment.

Part of an installation by British artist Keith Tyson called Large Field Array, first exhibited in 2005. Large Field Array, believed to be worth millions of dollars, has been exhibited in Denmark, the Netherlands, and New York, and is now on Sarvisalo Art Island in Finland.

It is a collection of separate but related cubic sculptures, and the penguin on the pile of books just happens to be the next sculpture visible in that direction. The spanking sculpture is approximately life-size or maybe slightly smaller. The artist said in a YouTube video about the installation that many of the sculptures are based on his own life. He would have been the same age as the boy getting the spanking in about 1985. As a young child he titled one of his drawings Angry Dad, and later said it looked rather like his stepfather.

Parents who use the belt have commented that the boy's position doesn't look very secure - he isn't far forward enough and looks like he might easily lose his grip on the spanker's left leg. Some beltings are given bent over a couch, bed, table or chair, instead of over the knee, to give more stability and to allow the spanker a larger swing.

In the original forum pic notes we also linked to these pics from infomag.es which give a better idea of the position and of the context as part of the whole installation:

In this one the kid is thinking.... why is that kangaroo enjoying this so much???

Look for our boy in the far left corner of the installation:

This pic was hoped to encourage all the kids in North America that were going back to school. Hickory was widely used in North America to make paddles, and also switches or sticks for caning, because of its "combination of strength, toughness, hardness, and stiffness".

The UK and Europe have no native hickory species, so the British imported rattan (a more flexible wood) from south-east Asia to make punishment canes, as well as using birch, hazel, and willow for birching. This makes the hickory stick an especially North American implement for punishing kids. In the middle of last century, U.S. teachers were still in the process of being told to use the paddle instead of the hickory stick, as can be seen in this Oregon newspaper clipping which also introduces the idea of a prescribed number of witnesses, and the idea of paddling the naughty student's buttocks instead of just hitting them anywhere on the body at random; as well as introducing board-approved paddles instead of teachers being allowed to make their own.

A few UK schools used ash wood to make sticks for punishment, and ash was also used to make caman sticks for the Scottish game of shinty (similar to field hockey). Some upper class boarding schools in Scotland last century allowed older teenage boys to use their shinty sticks to spank younger boys, who would sign their name on the stick after being spanked with it. That's no longer permitted, but with the ash tree facing extinction in Europe, most shinty sticks are now made from hickory instead.

This pic by Arkham-Insanity on deviantart.com shows a personification of England supervising a personification of the USA. The hickory stick already seems to have been used on the top of the student's legs, and the reason he's looking so alarmed is that the book he's studying seems to be a guidebook to different spanking implements.

The lyrics "Readin' and 'ritin' and 'rithmetic, Taught to the tune of the hickory stick", are from the song "School Days" by Will D. Cobb, published in 1907, about a barefoot schoolboy in the 1800's whose girlfriend wrote on his school slate that she loved him. Full lyrics on lyricsplayground.com, including the trivia that many 1950's jazz recordings of the song incorporated nursery rhyme lyrics such as Humpty Dumpty, Simple Simon, Little Jack Horner and Mary Had A Little Lamb.

The nuts of the pecan species of hickory are commonly used in praline candy and in pecan pie. This species is included in state symbols of Alabama, Arkansas, California, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Our only "play spanking" forum pic (so far), but "Adam" seems to be taking it seriously - to the point of tears anyway.

According to Wikipedia, "The Wolf Cub program was started by The Boy Scouts Association in the UK in 1916 for boys who were too young to be Boy Scouts ... Robert Baden-Powell asked his friend Rudyard Kipling for the use of his Jungle Book history and universe as a motivational frame for the Wolf Cub scheme." This includes the name "Akela" for the cub scout group leader (an adult). Many organizations kept the name "cubs" but dropped some or all of the references to wolves.

The cubs in this pic are wearing typical British cub scout outfits from the second half of last century, perhaps the 1960s, although modern uniforms are very similar. Cub scouts are commonly 7 to 12 years old, depending on region. A proper full size gym shoe that British boys of this era might have been punished with at school, would be more substantial than the red slipper they're using.

Language differences: the medical dressing on Adam's left knee is known as a sticking plaster or just "plaster" in British English (genericized trademark "elastoplast"), but as an adhesive bandage or just "bandage" in American English (genericized trademark "band-aid").

Pic by cmxpnk on deviantart.com - seven years later he also published a similar pic in which some cubs give each other play spankings with a table tennis bat.

This counts as a "huge scary paddle with holes" even though some paddles used in schools, fraternities or homes in the USA might be even larger. Paddling as a school punishment is not allowed in most U.S. states, and even in the parts of the USA where it is allowed, not all school districts or all schools use it anyway. Some school handbooks specify that the paddle used must not have holes in it, and others specify other requirements including size of paddle and maximum numbers of swats.

The pic has an awesome look to it as though the kid is saying "wow would you really spank innocent little me with this huge terrifying paddle???" There have been several different guesses as to how the pic came about:

  • maybe this is the paddle the kid really gets spanked with - or that his parents just bought for him - and his parents thought this photo would be funny. Slightly mean but still very amusing!
  • maybe the kid has never been spanked with this paddle and is never going to be, for example it's the paddle that was used on his Dad or they just found it somewhere. And he's just imagining what it would be like and his parents thought this photo would be funny
  • maybe the kid is a middle school student but his Dad is a high school principal or gym coach. The kid is fascinated at all the stories his Dad tells him about the huge paddle he uses at the high school, but the kid has never seen it.... until one day his Dad happens to bring it home! The look on the kid's face means "is this it??"
  • The kid's grandparents are big believers in big paddlings, and they suggest the parents should buy a big paddle or, better still, that the kid and his Dad should make one together. The kid then later has a video conference call with his grandparents and shows them the new paddle with this look that's partly innocent, partly hoping for their approval, and partly slightly nervous about what it's going to feel like when he gets paddled with it the first time
Back to genuinely ancient history! A spanking like  this has almost certainly not happened in any part of the world for more than 100 years. On the research website corpun.com this pic is described as being from a book of questionable accuracy.

The caption about a "public school" means a small number of elite British boarding schools founded between 1200 and 1700 AD. The birch was popular in the UK and Europe from Medieval times until well into the 1800s. The "horsed" position, with one boy lifted on the back of another boy to be beaten, was definitely used in some schools.

Several schools had the tradition of serious punishments being in front of the entire school. These included birchings in front of the whole school. Birching was always on the bare bottom. Unlike a spanking with a paddle, the birch only worked on the bare bottom.

UK schools that kept this method of punishment (bare bottom birchings in front of the whole school) continued with it until the 1960s.  Use of the birch for teenage criminals continued in some parts of the UK until the 1970s or 1980s. But this pic is definitely of the 1800s. Another strange element is the "over the head" stroke. This portrayal was common in the 1900's, it seems extremely unlikely and unrealistic. Some boys later described how the most feared teachers were those who caned with a "bacon slicer" downwards cut, but these must have been questionable.

This Swiss kid with red hair is not getting a real spanking, it's part of a humorous YouTube video by Les Petits Chanteurs à la Gueule de Bois in which the boy and his two female friends are spanked in time to music for a series of pranks. They also get to spank the adults themselves at the end of the video.

The video description says "A big thank you to Adèle, Noah and Numa as well as their parents" so the boy is probably called Noah. The end of the video also mentions "Aucun roux ñ'a été maltraité durant le tournage" - "No redhead was mistreated during the shoot". It has been mentioned that using only the hand to spank someone who is wearing jeans might literally make the spanker's hand just as sore as the actual target. However with a kid this age it might even be effective with enough swats.

The group is from the western part of Switzerland where French-speakers are common; other recognised languages in Switzerland are French, German and Romansh, although many Swiss people understand English and there are also local Swiss dialects too. To avoid favoritism, the Swiss motto, internet TLD, currency abbreviation and other things come from the Latin Confoederatio Helvetica (Helvetic confederation) instead of any of the other languages.

Special thanks to Alf for all his work uploading and checking the pics.
